Knowledge Centre Biobased Economy (KCBBE)
KCBBE is one of Hanze University’s knowledge centers. A biobased economy is a society that relies on sustainable, renewable resources of biological origin, operating in closed-loop systems. In this model, biological resources replace fossil resources for the production of chemicals, materials, fuels, or energy. KCBBE works with companies and institutions to address questions that require new solutions and innovations. The research contributes to knowledge development and application in professional practice and society, leading to innovation and (economic) growth. It also generates new insights and knowledge for our education programmes.
The Healthy Food & Nutrition research group conducts applied research on healthy and sustainable food products for a healthy lifestyle, by translating and applying scientific knowledge in practice. The group distinguishes itself through a focus on healthy and personalized food product from a physical-chemical perspective. Key research topics include the composition, texture, bioavailability, and bioactivity of novel macro- and micronutrients such as plant-based proteins, slowly digestible starches, fibers, and bioactive compounds.
